3 Ways Healthcare Consulting Helps You Achieve Freedom
Written by Taylor Cottano RN, BSN, CIC on May. 20th 2018
All Nurses know the feeling. You have been working the past 5 days and this is the 6th day of your hitch and its Christmas Eve. This year you are required to work Christmas Day as one of your two required major holidays so you will be missing out on time with your family and seeing your childrens eyes light up when they see what Santa brought them. You are short staffed because other nurses have called in for "personal reasons" and have been so busy that you haven't been able to use the bathroom or eat all day!!!
I could go on and on with situations like this one but you get the point. In this blog I want to give you 3 ways healthcare consulting helps you achieve freedom. Freedom can be interpreted in many different ways by different people. Some peoples definition of freedom is making more money, some peoples definition of freedom is having more time to do the things they want, and some peoples definition of freedom is being appreciated for what they do. CONSULTING PROVIDES FREEDOM IN ALL THESE SITUATIONS!!!

So lets get down to it:

1. Make More Money

Traditional Nursing jobs are paid on a hourly basis. Depending on the organization you work in, an extra 25 cents or up to a dollar could be added to your base pay for things like working nights, weekends, holidays, etc. The only way to make more money is to work more hours. With Consulting, you are able to set your rate and work with a multitude of clients that are all paying you the rate you request. For example, if you are helping an healthcare organization prep for their audit one day a month for $1500 while also working with another clinic to get licensed and accredited two day a month for $2500 as well as working with another hospital on studying work flow two days a month for $3000, You end up working 5 days out of the month and make $7000 per month!!!!! You determine how much money you make when you are a consultant.

2. Have More Time

To piggy back off of the last point, you see that you would only be working 5 days a month. That leaves 15 days in the working week to do whatever you want whether that be spend time with family, traveling to places you have always wanted to go, marketing your business, you get the idea. You will also have weekends off if you so choose. Another added benefit is that with the ability to define your schedule, you are able to have holidays and special events off to capture those special moments with the ones that mean the most.

3. Be Fully Appreciated

There is no better feeling when it is freely expressed that you are appreciated and that your client sees value in your work. In life we all want to be valued and feel that what we are doing is making a difference. With consulting not only can you visually see differences that you are making but you will hear the thanks of all of the staff in the organization for your help through tough situations. Why I push nurses towards this profession is because it has been so fulfilling to me. I knew from a child that my purpose on this earth was to help others. As a bedside nurse I was able to help only the patients I took care of. As a consultant, I can change a healthcare organizations practice that could help hundreds maybe even thousands of patients.

All in all you have to be happy with what you do and look forward to waking up in the morning to do that. If any of these things resonate with you and you want more information, let me know and I would be more than willing to help get you where you want to be.
